We are collecting 2500 hand-crafted butterflies for our Butterfly Hugs® outreach project. Now, that’s a lot of butterflies, but it’s also a great way to celebrate 25 years of Gospel ministry while blessing those who could use a little encouragement right now!
Our friends at The American Cancer Society are joining us to help catch some new butterflies, and bring awareness to Cancer Survivors . You will hear more about their efforts as well as stories of hope.
How Butterfly Hugs Work
We need artists of all kinds to provide as many fluttering creations of hope as possible. If you love to bring joy to others through your imaginative creations, we could use your help. Each butterfly received is a unique and treasured blessing to others, so send us your inspiration. Butterflies that can easily fit inside a mailable greeting card envelope work best, but we’ll find a place for yours no matter the size! Once we receive your butterfly, it will be paired with an encouraging note and sent to friends and community neighbors who need your encouragement! That’s it!

Make a butterfly… make a difference in the life of someone in need of encouragement!
At JOY FM, we’re collecting butterflies made out of anything you would like – construction paper, fabric, pipe cleaners, coffee filters… let your imagination soar! Your butterfly will be paired with an encouraging note and given to one of our friends and neighbors needing love and hope. It’s a very special project called Butterfly Hugs®!
There is no deadline! We will be collecting butterflies indefinitely. Smaller butterflies that can fit inside greeting card envelopes are especially needed. Your greeting card-sized masterpieces will be mailed to those precious friends who are too far away to receive hand-delivered Butterfly Hugs®.
Note: Please do not include candy or food items in your butterfly creations.
CANCER – It’s a word that brings so many emotions. For Tammy one of those was the feeling of hopelessness… that is until someone gave her a butterfly. The butterfly wasn’t just a piece of paper, it was a reminder to Tammy that there was hope and that she wasn’t alone. After Tammy received one butterfly, her radio friend asked listeners to make more and send them to Tammy. Tammy then collected hundreds of butterflies, all with a different message to encourage her during her battle. Months later when Tammy lost her battle with cancer, her family returned the butterflies to her friend, with the dream that one day they would encourage others. Those butterflies sat in the attic for almost a year before Tammy’s friend found them again. As she was picking up the box of butterflies, she felt God tugging on her heart to do something with them. Tammy’s friend took a basket of butterflies to the local cancer center and asked that they be handed out. Butterfly Hugs® was born that day.
Her dream lives on today at JOY FM. We now have amazing friends of all ages that create and send in their butterflies to go out to those not just battling cancer, but also those in need of encouragement when facing an illness, trial, depression, or any struggle. Not only do we send out the butterflies, we pair each one with a note of hope to let them know they are not alone!
Baskets of HOPE are now in over 35 cancer centers and over 50 ministry centers across the region. When our friends go to receive treatment or meet for an appointment, they can pick up a Butterfly Hug® and learn about the eternal hope that is available to them.
Butterfly Hugs® are also sent out to individuals by request.
