Southern Gospel Gold
Kindhearted and soft spoken, Grey Hager is a towering emblem of all that is good about Southern Gospel. Known as Joy FM’s resident historian, Grey hosts the popular Southern Gospel Gold program on Saturdays from 6-8 pm. He refers to this time as, “the highlight of my week.” To Grey, understanding the heritage of Southern Gospel music is important as time moves us toward the genre’s future.
Before he served the airwaves, Grey served his country in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. Later, he went on to college. It wasn’t until 1996, when his youngest son introduced him to broadcasting at WPIR in Claremont, North Carolina, that Grey traded a sales job for a mic. The rest of the story, however, is Southern Gospel Gold.
